But for those first affections,
Those shadowy recollections,
Which, be they what they may,
Are yet the fountain-light of all our day,
Are yet a master-light of all our seeing;
- William Wordsworth
I came to drawing and painting rather late in life. On the path to becoming an artist, I opened many doors – literature, foreign adventures, photography – until finally I have arrived at this place where my psyche, talents, and opportunities have all converged. All the doors I had opened on my quest, I have never really closed. That which I had discovered beyond them, I have brought to this place.
My work explores fantasy, Eros, primal archetypes, and the exotic. I think of my approach as an attempt to forge a sense of order out of the chaos of my imaginings. As you will see, my world of art is one in which color, humor, and whimsy dominate. I possess a spirit akin to the Apollonian temperament; however my hands remain grounded in the hedonistic delights of paint and texture, form and mass.
For inspiration I choose everything from the ancient, megalithic stones of Brittany to African masks, from the human form, cast in unreal settings, to fantasy creatures – primarily goats. I like to imbue all of my pieces with mystery and shifting layers of ambiguity: visual, intellectual, and social. But please, enter the galleries and explore for yourself.
